The UKENGEE Foundation

ABOUT UKENGEE
The Dutch Foundation Ukengee targets on installing computers and launching internet in Tanzania because Internet is extremely important for education, emancipation and information.
Ukengee looks for schoolprojects especially in areas without electricity-grid and heavy weather conditions.
Conditions like dust, moist and high temperatures make it difficult to achieve those targets of installing computers and launching Internet.
Ukengee has a partnership with Inveneo, a non-profit social enterprise, that realized a special computer for these areas.

At this moment Ukengee has five projects in the Lindi-district in South Tanzania.
The first secondary school was in
Kilma Masoko (850 students, 20 pc's incl. 5 internetconnections)  in 2009.
In the meantime
the Mpunyule Secondary School in Mandawa (325 students, 12 pc's incl. 3 internetconnections), Lindi (800 students, 18 pc's incl. 4 internetconnections) and the girlschool in Ilula (240 students, 16 pc's incl. 4 internetconnections) have computerlabs too.
With a donation by ASML Foundation it will be possible to realize the fifth project before the end of 2011: a computerroom for the Secondary School in Mahiwa.
And with the special fundraising event on September 7 Ukengee will try to realize a sixth project in Nkowe.

SPECIAL FUNDRAISING EVENT

On Wednesday September 7, over a hundred special guests, invited by Ukengee Foundation and Dutch NGO 'Wilde Ganzen' enjoyed a tasteful 'sit down diner' and a special performance of the famous Musical 'Soldaat van Oranje'.

Ukengee chairman Ronald Blom with special guest: singer Willeke Alberti

The Musical itself is spectacular due to a revolving theater around the different scenes, which includes a scene with a real and original Dakota airplane. With the benefits of this special evening we will try to realize a sixth project in the south of Tanzania: Nkowe. The school is very important in this region and has already built a computerroom and hopefully the computerlab can be installed in 2011.
Singer Willeke Alberti was our special guest and she was delighted about the performance and wished Ukengee Foundation all the best with the realization of upcoming projects.

When these projects will be realized more than 5,000 students in this area will benefit of the facilities.
Our target is to install computerlabs in another 35 schools in the Lindi-area.

In April
2010 the Solar & Computers for Schools Foundation was installed. This local foundation advices Ukengee about the searching and developing the new projects for the Ukengee Foundation.
